Every Chōmei Ji-Nashi Shakuhachi begins as a unique piece of carefully selected Japanese madake bamboo. No two are ever alike, and no two are intended to be.

Each instrument is handcrafted individually, allowing the natural character of the bamboo to guide the process rather than forcing it toward a predetermined ideal. My role is not to impose a voice upon the bamboo, but to uncover the voice that already exists within it.

The gallery below represents more than a collection of instruments. It is a collection of individual journeys. Every shakuhachi possesses its own personality, its own response, and its own relationship with the player who eventually chooses it.
